History about Monteverde
The forests of Monteverde, surrounded in clouds, and their numerous wild creatures, snakeshare a common future with the human beings that they have settled down near the Reserve. In 1972, under the threat of the colonization of the surrounding cloudy forest, the scientist George Powell and his wife they were united with the resident quaker Wilford Guindon to establish a natural reserve. The Tropical Scientific Center was receptive to these efforts and accepted the institutional responsibility of foundation, possession and administration of the future reserve. Initial purchases of 328 hectares formed the base for the Biological Reserve Cloudy Forest Monteverde. In 1975 under administrative agreement the communal reserve hydrographic Bosque Eterno S.A. of 554 hectares was annexed, founded in the middle of the years ‘ 60 by members of the community quaker. After the creation of the Reserve, the Tropical Scientific Center I continue looking for the economic and human resources necessary to suitably protect, to expand, to consolidate and to administer the Reserve. At the moment this one owns an extension of more than 10.500 hectares.
